Drugs and Narcotics at Law School

So, like I said yesterday, I have a new research project for my LW&R (Legal Writing and Research) class and the topic is contributory possession of a controlled substance. After school, I headed up to the library to get started. The research log we have to guide us along the way says to start by looking up the topic in West's Federal Practice Digest's Descriptive Word Index. So I find that most of the stuff I need to look up is under the topic heading of "Drugs and Narcotics" but, of course, when I go to get the volume with the Dr&N topic, it's not there. There was a girl from my LW&R class there also looking for the same book...

Her (I should totally know her name, but I'm a bad person so I don't): Are you looking for Drugs and Narcotics?

Me: Yeah, I can never find anything in here.

Her: I know what you mean, everyone's always taking what we need.

Me: Maybe we can find another Drugs and Narcotics on the 5th floor...

(A homeless man, unnoticed by us before, pops his head out of a study cube)

Man: You guys really got that shit on the 5th floor!?

I love San Francisco... and the fact that you don't need a student ID to get into the library.

nyuk nyuk.

we had the same problem at UCLA, a dickload of people given the same research assignment and there being only two sets of books. if only there were some form of electronic medium, perhaps an online repository of legal materials, that could be accessed simultaneously by millions of legal scholars all across the country, nay, the world.

well, someday, perhaps...

There is! There is! At City College I can find a whole lot of books in the Online Library. I just read "Misalliance" by George Bernard Shaw online.
